Ohpen nominated for Innovation Award byUK Department for International Trade

Annual Investment Awards recognise the importance of overseas investment into the UK

The DIT is the department responsible for promoting investment into the UK from foreign companies. Its Annual Investment Awards recognise the importance of overseas investment into the UK, encouraging nominations from organisations who are providing a tangible benefit for the UK economy. The Innovation category focuses on “an investment that either brings something new to the market or approaches a sector in an original manner.”

Ohpen gained approval in January 2017 from the FCA to carry out regulated activities in the United Kingdom. Ohpen UK CEO Angelique Schouten: “This nomination is the reward for all our efforts lately. In a little over 12 months, we have obtained our FCA licence, signed one of the largest financial services companies in the UK as our first client, and gone from a team of zero to over 30 (and growing) creative, dedicated professionals based at Old Street’s Silicon Roundabout. Oh, and we’re moving to brand new offices very soon.”

Schouten is confident that the UK’s banks, pension providers and insurers are overdue a digital revolution. “Despite being a huge financial centre, the UK market is dominated by outdated technology that is holding back its organisations,” Schouten said. “Financial services companies have outgrown their legacy systems and need modern, digital infrastructure to cope with the pace of change. Ohpen, and companies like us, are in a strong position to provide a cloud-based alternative that saves our clients significant time and money. Our core banking engine is built from the ground-up, and we’re excited to introduce this to the UK.

The DIT’s Annual Investment Awards will be held on the 12th of October in Amsterdam, with 2017 being the seventh annual ceremony.
